Our Mission

Fire service Public Educators working together to provide a resource for consistent and current fire and life safety information

Our Story

ISE began as a small group of public educators from the greater Indianapolis area.  The group originally called themselves Central Indiana Public Educators (CIPE).  They met quarterly to discuss ways to streamline the fire and injury prevention message and to share teaching ideas and resources.  A few times each year, they combined efforts to participate in community events, such as providing a booth at the Children and Parents Expo at the State Fair Grounds.

In 2005, Indiana experienced a record year for for fatalities caused by fire and other preventable injury.  The members of CIPE began brainstorming ways to help increase public education efforts, and they realized that Indiana needed a resource where fire department personnel could turn for help--whether for exchanging teaching ideas, contacting other safety educators, or for coordinating community events.  With the endorsement of the Indiana State Fire Marshal, Indiana Safety Educators (ISE) was established to become that resource.

Through ISE, safety educators from departments across the state are forming a network to provide a resource for consistent and current fire and life safety information. Our website will serve as a place where you can obtain updated information, such as the contact information for other fire department educators, an idea exchange for teaching a variety of safety topics, links to helpful websites, and a message board on which you can post questions or share ideas. ISE also strives to keep track of up-to-date statistics on fire and injury-related deaths across the state. Currently, the Central Indiana chapter of ISE holds monthly meetings to discuss current issues, coordinate participation in community events, and to exchange ideas for delivering safety presentations to various audiences. We hope that ISE will continue to grow, with regional chapters forming all across the state.
